I have had AVG on my computer for some time, but things started to go haywire. It appeared to be antivirus program causing the problem. I called AVG tech support and they accessed my computer remotely and tried to delete and download AVG again. Things were not working, and having them accessing my computer remotely was making me nervous, so after they deleted the program again, I didn't call back to try installing it again. I read the reviews on antivirus program and decided to buy Webroot. Everything has been working fine, but tonight I tried opening Turbo Tax and got the message, 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC?' The program was the AVG Program Deactivator.

Now supposedly AVG has been completely deleted from my computer. I clicked, 'No'.

I repeated this about four times. The first three times, I got that same message; the fourth time, the program opened. I have copies of other years of Turbo Tax on my computer. One of them is giving this same message and even though I have tried many times, it keeps giving me this message. The third year of Turbo Tax never gave that message; it opens as it should.

If I right click on Turbo Tax, there is no option to run Webroot, yet there is on all my other apps. I am afraid to put my password into Turbo Tax and use it.

Avg Program Deactivator Review

What do you suggest? I'm sorry, I am afraid I am pretty computer illiterate even though I am on my computer most of the day, every day.

It is one thing to use it, and another to understand it. Hi helpneeded Welcome to the Community Forums. Sounds like AVG Tech Support really did not get rid of their software from your system, so one thing you may like to try is to run the AVG Removal Tool again yourself.you can access/download it from. They will most like have used that themselves but you never know, running it your self may just work better. Now, as for the further issue; I am assuming that the AVG Tech Support Team you called were legitimate since you called them and that therefore we can rule out any nefarious goings on re. Your system, as a result of your support call.

Disable Avg Program Deactivator

Given what you say about the fact that you are getting the message from a named, i.e., AVG Program Deactivator, is a good sign in a sense as if it were nefarious it would not announce itself in most cases. I have checked on this program and it appears to be a legitimate part of AVG's PC TuneUp, which I think is bundled or part of one of the version of AVG. It ' turns off programs by pausing their background activity when they're not actively running', and therefore given that it may have made adjustments to TurboTax when AVG was installed on your system it looks like it is now trying to undo what it did.either way it does not sounds like malicious behaviour that you should be worried about.

I would have assumed that AVG Tech Support would have removed that program as well if it was bundled with the anti malware application you asked them to remove but just in case it was not you should check to see it i is still installed and if so then you need to open it & see if you can unregister TurboTax from it if possible.assuming that you do not want to keep that AVG application either. TO assist you you may like to check out the as they may well have dealt with shuch a question/issue in the past. But in terms of answer the question 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC?'

, I would say 'Yes' as the program appears to be legitimate/trying to do what it was designed to do. But do make sure that you at least create a System Restore Point before you, just in case something does not work properly.if you need help with doiing that then pelase post back with your Windows version and we can provide guidance on that. And as a final option you could try Opening a Support Ticket to see if the Webroot Support Team may be able to help with this.they are pretty good and cover all technical issues related to WSA, but in this case given that we are referring to something caused by AVG I am not sure is their largess extends that far.but worth a try. Apologies that I cannot be of more help and for the rambling reply.

Do let us know what you decide/how things go. Regards, Baldrick. Hi helpneeded You are most welcome.glad to be able to assist. Thank you too for the feedback.it is much appreciated as it helps us to confirm that we are on the right track so that as and when another Community member posts here with the same or a similar issue we have a reference point to work with in term of a solution. I am surprised that the AVG Tech Support Team where unable to completely remove AVG, including the PCTune Up application as I would have thought that both would have been installed at the same time.but perhaps not. The important thing is that (i) you are sorted & (ii) wellprotected by joinging the Webroot Family. Do post back should you have any further questions or issues.you know where we are.

Regards, Baldrick.
