Vst in reason is going to be so killer with all the crazy cv and routing stuff that you can only do in reason. It looks super simple to do also.

They implemented it just like we always said they should have, allowing individual parameters to be modulated via a combi style interface. Seriously, 9 was already the coolest thing ever, this makes it even better. I hope that patch browsing and undo works the same way as native reason devices too. If so I see no point to use anything else. This is gonna sound weird but I think one of the biggest reasons (no pun intended) why Reason uptake trails that of Ableton or FL Studio is how difficult Propellerheads have made it to pirate. My first intro to music production was with a cracked copy of Reason 5 and a cracked copy of FL.

When I downloaded the demo of Reason 9 earlier last year just for shits and giggles I was pretty shocked at how much better and well-featured it was than 5 and wondering how many more people would appreciate it if THAT was their first introduction to the product instead of through some decade old version floating around the torrents. Wow, this is like 17 years in the making.

I used to use Reason before I switched to Logic. Reason was super fun because of its great synths but as I started to use more hardware and software I moved away from it. I actually learned CV and Gate from Reason - I didn't touch a Eurorack system for 15 years since using Reason but when I managed to get to one I knew all of the basics because you could do that wiring. I haven't checked out its features recently but I'd be surprised if Reason didn't already have some kind of Eurorack emulator now. I always loved Reason for what it is. Its limitations and its tailored toolset have been its strength. Now many people will find themselves loading one VST synth after the other, rolling through the presets, trying to fix the mess the cluster of random source VST effects are causing.

Having unlimited options is a creativity killer. The CEO said it right, they gave us everything we need, I guess many people were missing the option to load VST X with preset No.1432 just to sound exactly the same as DJ whoever. TLDR: market dictates. I think there's a limitation though because Reason is such a huge investment, you can't easily get a user base to go in-depth into all of the sound options in videos or tutorials, for example.

Compare to Massive - tons of online tutorials, so people go buy it, make their Dubstep, realize that if they want to keep using Massive they need to NOT use Reason. I went away from Reason because I thought I needed or wanted external plugins. You're right, I really didn't, but when all of my friends were using (at the time) EWQLSO and Reaktor and I couldn't I just felt left out. Music people LOVE to throw money at stuff (I mean we're on ) and it doesn't feel nice when you can't use your $1500 of software and $10000 of hardware with your DAW. Propellerheads solved the hardware and MIDI part a while ago with Record but in a world where FLStudio is no longer a joke, Logic is $200, and Ableton Live is the go-to EDM environment dropping $400 (used to be $700!) is hard to justify when it means you lose access to that other investment! But I do bet you're going to lose out on a lot of the cool wiring you can get with Reason - crazy CV and Gate routings, effects and spiders for crazy sounds that you can't do in VSTs if you don't have a chain of standard Reason instruments.
