Serial # already registered? I recently purchased Sonar Home Studio 4. In fact, it arrived just yesterday. I puchased it from kelly's music (a Canadian music software website, ).

However, when I went to register the product with the serial # on the CD sleeve, the website said that that number had already been registered! I was shocked! In any case, its Saturday and Cakewalk and Kelly's music phone support won't be available until Monday, so I'll have to wait a bit.

I've also sent both companies emails regarding this problem. My question is: has anyone else had this experience of finding the serial # of their brand-new legitimately purchased copy of any cakewalk software to be 'already in use'? And if so, how were you able to resolve the issue? Now I'm worried: since I did not purchase it directly from cakewalk's site, I'm afraid there will be no way to prove to them I actually bought it. I'm hoping Kelly's music will be able to provide proof-of-purchase info. However, I can at least fax cakewalk a copy of the invoice (which explicitly says the product purchased was 1 SONAR HOME STUDIO 4) and then have Kelly's confirm it. Thanks for any help or advice!

I've actually had this happen to me twice. And both times it was with Native Instruments. The first time was, if memory serves, when I tried to register my newly purchased Pro-52. I too got 'this serial number already registered'. When I contacted NI they basically said it had been hacked, were very non-chalant about it and issued me a new serial number. The second time was even stranger: As I was looking one day on my NI user profile after registering another new product I saw that I had a registered authorization for Reaktor.with serial number, id and response.

Only trouble is I've never purchased, tried to register or even used Reaktor. I contacted NI about this several times but they never took any action and still to this day I have a registration for Reaktor. Once just to see what would happen (honest) I tried to download one of the updates and 'boom' there she was.of course since I didn't have the original program there was nothing to 'update' Anywhoo I bet alltheseworlds may be onto something. I just spoke with Cakewalk customer support and they said it won't be a problem getting a new serial number.

Now of course, they require proof of purchase, and here where it gets a bit interesting in a geeky sort of way. The customer representative asked that, instead of faxing an invoice, that I take a digital picture of the CD sleeve with the serial # and email it to her!

I'm at work right now, but luckily I have a digital camera at home I can use. I'll send the email off this evening and hopefully this will be resolved by tomorrow. Will let you know how things turn out. Thanks again! but my point is not to assume there was anything wrong with the merchant you bought your copy from. I'd be surprised if it.wasn't.

a serial number generator program. So I called Cakewalk back again today after sending the photos in last night and they gave me a new serial #. Unfortunately they said I would have to reinstall the program with new serial.
