Hello anyone outthere in repair land. I have a delta sander 31-460 type two. 4' belt 6' disc sander. I have to replace the belt becasue it shredded, and it seems like the arm that swings up and down is loose and has movement from left to right. When the sander is on it vibrates really bad. Causing the belt to shred. I tightened up the allen key scewon the top of the unit.

But it tightens so much i am unable to make the arm swing up. Is there any gasket inside the unit that wears out over time? And i cant see how to open up the sander to access the area where there could be a gasket. Any help on this matter would be great.i already took the sander disc off the side and access the belt. I found that the rear drum seems tight on the side away from the pulley and drive belt. It rubs with every revolution and it seems that if there was a fat 1/16' more clearance, that would fix it. I loosened a set screw that holds the drum onto the shaft, but couldn't move the shaft with the force I used. Short of brutality, how do you slide the drum back and forth on the shaft?

Or am I way off. I don't do much in the way of small tool repair. Thank you for any tips you can offer, Chuck Barnett. Hi aescham, Start by removing the work table from in from of the disc. The disk is held to the drive spindle with a set screw.

Remove the set screw. I haven't worked on one of these sanders in quite sometime but I recall that there is an opening in the plastic guard which will allow access to the set screw. Now you can remove the disc. Sometimes the disc will be 'locked' to the drive spindle due to a burr left by the set screw on the drive shaft. If this is the case you will need to remove all of the screws that attach the disc guard to the rest of the sander.

Now carefully pry the disc off with a couple of pry bars or large screwdrivers. The new disc is part #. Good luck with your repair! -UtahAV -Mark.
